Better care for a better life

Home infusion supply contracts awarded to Bayshore Specialty Rx by Central East and Central CCACs

Mississauga, ON, February 23, 2011 –Bayshore Specialty Rx has been awarded a pair of contracts to provide medication, equipment and supplies to home infusion clients of two Ontario Community Care Access Centres.

The company was selected as the sole provider of infusion equipment (e.g., infusion pumps and poles) and supplies (e.g., syringes, tubing and intravenous bags) of Central East CCAC, under a two-year contract beginning April 1. The contract covers a large area that includes eastern Toronto (former borough of Scarborough) and Durham, Peterborough, Haliburton and Northumberland counties.

The other contract, with Central CCAC, will see Bayshore Specialty Rx and Canada Care Medical partner to provide 50% of the medical supplies and infusion medication, equipment and supplies to clients located in northern Toronto (former borough of North York) and York Region. The two-year contract begins February 14.

"We are very excited about continuing and expanding our services to meet the needs of Central East CCAC and its clients, as well as being selected as a new provider for Central CCAC," says Bill Perks, Director of Pharmacy for Bayshore Specialty Rx. "We are well-prepared to meet both CCAC's needs. Over the past several years we've made ongoing investments in people, pharmacy technology and warehouse systems. We've more than doubled our staff to 60 since we opened our state-of-the-art specialty pharmacy in Markham, Ont., in early 2009."

Both contracts were awarded following an extensive bidding process and have two-year renewal options.

"These are significant contracts that cover a wide range of products and encompass wide geographic areas," says Bayshore Specialty Rx president Stuart Cottrelle. "More importantly, these contracts allow us to work with valued partners to help people get better in the comfort of their own homes while reducing the need for hospital visits."

He adds that Bayshore's entry several years ago into the infusion field was fueled by the vision of integrating infusion services into the company's home care offering on a national level. "The creation of Bayshore Specialty Rx enabled us to augment the infusion nurses we traditionally had with a pharmacy that mixes specialty medications, the provision of infusion equipment and supplies, home delivery of these items and a network of infusion clinics across Canada."
