Better care for a better life

Bayshore Home Health opens office to better meet growing home care needs of Pembroke community

Services include in-home nursing care, personal care, home support and more

Belleville, Ontario, June 16, 2009 –Bayshore Home Health, Canada’s largest provider of home and community health care services, announced today the opening of a new office in Pembroke. Bayshore has been serving the local community since the beginning of this year through its Smith Falls location. The new office will enhance the company’s presence throughout Renfrew County, allowing it to build stronger relationships with clients and ultimately provide a higher level of service.

The new office, centrally located at 169 Lake Street, will offer a wide range of personalized home care services under an existing contract with the Champlain Community Care Access Centre (CCAC). The contract is for the provision of overflow home care service for residents of Renfrew Country (which includes the towns of Pembroke, Renfrew and Arnprior) – which is required when demand for service exceeds the capacity of the CCAC’s other contracted care providers.

In addition to its contract with the CCAC, Bayshore Home Health will also focus on providing service directly to the public and to people receiving care through insurance providers and workers’ compensation boards. There’s also a need in the community for more health care services, given the shortage of family doctors in the area.

“With our aging local population, there is growing demand for home health care, yet many people don’t understand the kind of services that home care provides or that they have options beyond institutional care,” says Lori Lachance, Area Director for the office. “It’s the goal of our new office to make people more aware of home health care and Bayshore’s ability to bring professional services and individualized care to our clients in the comfort of their homes.”

The office will provide a wide range of services 24 hours per day, seven days per week, including:

  1.  Free in-home assessments and care supervision by a registered nurse.
  2.  In-home nursing care including administering medication, wound and skin care, advanced foot care and pain and symptom management.
  3.  Personal care and hygiene such as grooming, washing, bathing, basic hand and foot care, dressing, assistance with eating, accompaniment to appointments and other activities.
  4.  Home support such as light housekeeping, meal preparation and laundry.
  5.  Companion services through personal visits to the home to share a cup of tea or go for a walk.
  6.  Caregivers specially trained to assist clients with serious injuries, acquired brain injury, palliative care and dementia.

“These services allow seniors, individuals living with disability and people with a wide range of acute or chronic care needs to live comfortably in their own homes, preserving their independence and dignity and enhancing their quality of life,” adds Lachance.

Connie Robinson joins the new office as manager of clinical practice. She is a registered nurse with over 15 years of community health care experience. Prior to joining Bayshore Home Health last year she worked with another home health care provider and as director of care for a local senior’s residence. Robinson is certified in gerontology and has taken courses in palliative care, acquired brain injury management and foot care.

A free Heart Smart Wellness Clinic will be held on Wednesday, June 10th from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the new office located at 169 Lake Street in Pembroke. Members of the community are invited to attend. Free testing will be offered that includes on-the-spot results for blood pressure and blood cholesterol screening.
