Bayshore Home Health opens office to meet growing home care needs of North Shore community

--Services include in-home nursing care, personal care, home support and more--

North Vancouver, BC, November 17, 2008 – Bayshore Home Health, Canada’s largest provider of home and community health care services, announced today the opening of a new office on the North Shore.

The office is centrally located within a block of Lions Gate Hospital, at 159 East 15th Street, North Vancouver, to allow local residents easy access to professional home care services. These services fill a variety of short- and long-term personal care needs and offer an alternative to institutional care.

The office will focus on providing a wide range of personalized home care services to the public as well as people receiving care through insurance providers and workers’ compensation boards. It also will offer nurse/caregiver staffing services to long-term care facilities, retirement residences and other health care organizations.

“With a growing and aging population, there is an increasing need for home care services, yet many people don’t understand the kind of services that home health care provides or that they have options beyond institutional care,” says Rosemary Swanlund, area director for the office. “It’s the goal of our new office to make people more aware of home health care and Bayshore’s ability to bring professional services and individualized care to our clients in the comfort of their homes.”
The office will operate 24 hours per day, seven days per week and provide a wide range of services including:

1. Free in-home assessments and care supervision by a registered nurse.
2. In-home nursing care including administering medication, wound and skin care, advanced foot care, pain and symptom management.
3. Personal care and hygiene such as grooming, washing and bathing, basic hand and foot care, dressing, assistance with eating, accompaniment to appointments and other activities.
4. Home support such as light housekeeping, meal preparation and laundry.
5. Companion services through personal visits to the home to share a cup of tea or go for a walk.
6. Caregivers specially trained to assist clients with serious injuries, acquired brain injury, palliative care and dementia.

“These services allow seniors, individuals living with disability and people with a wide range of acute or chronic care needs to live comfortably in their own homes, preserving their independence and dignity and enhancing their quality of life,” adds Swanlund.

A free wellness clinic will be held on Thursday, Dec. 4th from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm at the new office, on 159 East 15th Street, North Vancouver. Members of the community are invited to attend. Free wellness testing will be offered that includes on-the-spot results for blood pressure, blood cholesterol and osteoporosis screening.
