Better care for a better life

Owen Sound's growing retirement community to benefit from Bayshore Home Health's newest office

Owen Sound, ON, July 7, 2011 – Bayshore Home Health, Canada's largest provider of home and community health care services, announced today the opening of a new office in Owen Sound, Ontario. The office will provide a wide range of in-home nursing, personal care, home support, and companion services.

"This new Bayshore branch will help the growing senior population in Owen Sound and surrounding areas," says Angela McLean, nursing supervisor for the branch. "More and more seniors are making this area their retirement community of choice due to recreational activities such as hunting and fishing, a less costly lifestyle than big city living and a better overall quality of life. They want access to professional home care services to ensure they can enjoy an active retirement and remain in their homes as long as possible to maintain their independence."

The branch will focus on providing services directly to the public as well as to individuals receiving care through insurance providers, including the Ontario Workplace Safety Insurance Board. Its care staff will also work with various health care organizations in the area, including rehabilitation and physiotherapy clinics, retirement and nursing homes, and physicians, to provide complementary services to their clients.

"Many people are not aware of the wide range of home care services that are available to them or that they have options beyond institutional care," adds Mary Carter, area director of the new location, as well as Bayshore's London branch. "It's the goal of our new office to make people more aware about home health care and Bayshore's ability to bring professional services and individualized care to our clients in the comfort of their homes."

The company is in the process of hiring 25 new staff members for the branch, including registered nurses, registered practical nurses and personal support workers, to meet the demand for its services throughout Owen Sound and the surrounding area. Additional staff are expected to be hired as the branch expands.

The new office, located at 945 3rd Avenue in Owen Sound, will operate from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Outside of these hours, 24/7 on-call service is available. A wide range of personalized home care services are offered including:

  • Personal care and hygiene such as grooming, washing and bathing, basic hand and foot care, dressing and assistance with eating.
  • Home support including light housekeeping, meal preparation and laundry.
  • Companion services including visits to the home, accompaniment to appointments and support with other activities.
  • In-home nursing care including administering medications, wound and skin care, advanced foot care and pain and symptom management.
  • Caregivers specially trained to assist clients with serious injuries, acquired brain injury, palliative care needs and dementia.
  • Free in-home assessments and consultations, as well as insurance funding investigations.

"Bayshore's services allow seniors, individuals with disabilities and people with a wide range of acute or chronic care needs to live comfortably in their own homes," says Carter. "They will also help alleviate some of the stress families experience as they try to help elderly parents while working full-time and caring for children of their own."
