- Dan Cumming (Marathon runner, writer and blogger)

- Cindy Crapper (Former javelin thrower, Olympic Torch Bearer leader of Vancouver's Sport for Life and Active for Life programs)
In the news: "Dan Cumming is a runner, period. He's also 67"
A special project by Bayshore Home Health is designed to help society move beyond defining people by their age so that we can see each other as a sum of all of our parts.
Before They Were Grandparents “creates the context of a whole human being,” says Cumming, who will be running the BMO half-marathon on May 6. “When you’re young, you see someone who’s old and say, ‘Oh, they’re just old.’ But when you’re one of them, you know stuff has happened....It gives a life to the people you see at one point in time,” says Cumming, whose done 14 marathons since 2000.

Alzheimer’s Disease: Bayshore Vancouver in the News
A recent Vancouver Courier article (Nov. 16) highlights four steps to making educated decisions about caring for a loved one affected by Alzheimer’s. Incidence of Alzheimer’s and related dementias is predicted to increase dramatically over the next 30 years, but responsibility for caregiving will still fall upon close relatives. Consider these four tips: 1) Learn about the disease. 2) Reframe your communication. 3) Work with a certified home care professional. 4) Don’t be afraid to ask for support. For full details on these and other related techniques, or to help create a structured care plan call 604-873-2545 to talk with a Certified Dementia Practitioner. (Note: all home care provided by Bayshore Home Health in the Lower Mainland is supervised by a Registered Nurse Manager and Certified Dementia Practitioner).
