BURNABY, B.C. (August 16, 2022) — Bayshore HealthCare’s Pediatric Program in Burnaby, B.C. has achieved Accreditation with Commendation: the second highest standing Accreditation Canada awards an organization.

“This was Burnaby Pediatrics and Specialty Nursing’s second Accreditation Canada survey. It was a very different experience this time, mostly due to the challenges imposed by the pandemic. Most of the survey was completed virtually,” says Lisa Ternoway, Area Director of Bayshore HealthCare’s Burnaby branch. “Despite this, our team was able to show our commitment to an environment of safety, providing excellent care, and strong relationships with our families. One of the surveyors referred to our program as a ‘gem.’ Our team continues each day to protect, nurture and grow this gem.”

Bayshore HealthCare (Bayshore) provides a range of services to medically complex and fragile children in various settings including home, daycare, school, and residential hospice through its Pediatric Program. The Burnaby, B.C. branch has been providing pediatric respite care through the Nursing Support Services program to children in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island for over 19 years. The children who are eligible for this program all have a complexity, or technological dependence to their care, and many require 24/7 monitoring and care.

“Our clients and families rely on this program to safely attend school or be in their communities. For the parents and guardians, it allows them to sleep at night, get to work, or simply take time to recharge with a trained nurse or caregiver to ensure the client is safe,” adds Ternoway. “Our administrative team along with more than 300 field nurses and caregivers go above and beyond everyday. Because of the advanced nursing skills, we are able to keep children with their families, in the comfort of their own home.”

Accreditation Canada standards apply to policy, procedures and practices related to governance, administration, human resources, health and safety, client rights, quality assurance and improvement, and a continuum of programs and services. Service providers with accredited status demonstrate that they have an appropriate level of proficiency and are able to continually improve the quality of services being delivered.

“Receiving Accreditation with Commendation from Accreditation Canada is not only a prestigious award for our organization but it sets the objectives for continuous improvement by our staff and prioritizes safety and engagement so that our clients are always served at the highest possible standard,” says Maureen Charlebois, Chief Nursing & Clinical Officer, Bayshore HealthCare.
