Finding a voice, preserving a life

A Parkinson’s journey

Staying connected with loved ones can make all the difference during difficult times. When Parkinson’s disease began affecting Jim’s ability to speak and swallow, the everyday moments became more challenging. With support from a Bayshore speech language pathologist, he found new ways to stay connected to family, express himself, and remain independent. Through therapy and communication tools tailored to his needs, Jim was able to continue living at home with comfort and the support of those around him.

Victor Piper-Speirs, a physician assistant with Bayshore’s Occupational and Emergency Medicine Solutions team, supports workers in and around Geraldton’s mining community. He shares what it takes to be the person everyone turns to when things go sideways.
